'BY'- For Buyers

This collection displays Buying and Merchandising outcomes, along with my Final Major Project; combining my interest in buying, and mobile technology advancement.

Graduating from a BA (Hons) in Fashion Business and Promotion, my time spent on this course has allowed me to develop career aspirations targeted towards the Buying and Merchandising sector.

Buying and Merchandising allowed me to create a SS17 trouser range in collaboration with Whistles. The range had to follow a researched trend forecast, whilst adhering to the Whistles consumer taste and representing the brands values.
The trend forecast chosen was WGSN’s ‘Pause’, where time is the ultimate luxury, and life will be more about moments not minutes. The trend expressed comfort, quality and luxury; with light, airy and calming properties.
Combining the trend direction with consumer research, catwalk and street style analysis’ and comp shops allowed me to produce my final range; consisting of core, fashion and trial lines.
The module provided an insight and understanding of lead times, comp shops, critical paths, phasing, sourcing, negotiating, costs and profit margins.
The final range was created within Adobe Illustrator and presented using Indesign.

For my Final Major Project I combined my interest in the buying industry with the advancements in mobile technology.
This allowed me to combine and expand on all the skills gained throughout my time at university, as well as developing new ones.
Through in-depth research, and speaking to buyers within the fashion industry, a need for making the buying process more organised and convenient was expressed. This led me to create ‘BY’- a wholesale buying app, specifically for the fast fashion market.
Using innovative technology, ‘BY’ is the first app within this market that has transferred the current buying process into a handy digital format, allowing everything to be in one place, and accessible as, and when, needed.
The outcomes of this project consisted of a business plan with a 12 month financial forecast, marketing booklet, fully functioning ‘BY’ app, app user guidelines and an app walk through video.

Reflecting on the past three years, I have been provided with vital knowledge on personal and professional growth, as well as a variety of skills within the business side of the fashion industry; from the diversity of modules, work placements and part-time employment.
Previous industry experience and retail work has allowed me to gain an in-depth commercial awareness insight, strong people skills and an understanding of trends, consumers and products; all of which I aim to take forward with me into the buying industry.
