COURSE: Fashion Business & Promotion 2016

TITLE: Pur-Pose

Perfect is boring - Human is beautiful.
Don't be afraid to fail, Be afraid not to try.
At Birmingham City University, on the Fashion Business and Promotions course, along with experience working in the modelling industry, I have gained a vast amount of information and skills in my past three years of study. My dissertation looked into whether there was a positive, or negative impact on models aged under 16 playing an adult role in the modelling industry. Major key points that came from this were that models themselves believed that the younger a model starts to work, the more opportunity they have in the long run. Also models admitted finding it hard to talk up on issues they may have had to deal with whilst working (doing photo shoots, catwalk shows, campaigns). Another thread pulled from this was that if models are not signed it is far harder to get work, or even have a place to showcase themselves or get work, especially paid work.

These threads then led to my Final Major Project. Pur-Pose is the name of my Final Major Project and the mission statement of this is "Confidence and support aligned for each model to pursue their purpose". This is a new business concept for signed and unsigned models, a website is put together for models to find castings, promote themselves through self made online portfolios, an anonymous support/help page and a topics page where models can keep up to date on what is happening in the industry, and also comment and have their say.

Because of my passion for the modelling industry both working behind and in front of the camera, I would most definitely be interested in this sector and industry of work in the near future.
