Honour is a collection based on the miracle of birth. A beautiful experience that brings life into the world. Birth is often known to be a pain unlike no other, yet the outcome of it brings the feeling of joy and happiness. Sharing the experience with the mother is a midwife. Often overlook by society, midwives comfort and protect both the mother and child throughout the birthing experience. I wanted the collection to express the beautiful elements of birth and to include the appreciation of midwives by using badges. The badges are represent as medals, as childbirth would prove to be a lot more dangerous without the knowledge of midwives. Bold and vibrant colours are used within the collection to empathise on the joy that after birth brings. As well as bright colours, there is a delicate detail featured within the textile, a gladiolus, the birth flower of august. This represents the birth of a child according to their birth month. However the collection itself is not delicate, but bold and structured, to represent the strength needed throughout birth. The whole concept of birth is a complicated matter, yet once it is achieved both the mothers and midwives are honoured to have the experience.
