Signature Project
My aim for this project is to show the way Cubans live and their experiences in comparison to tourists and the way they see Cuba. For example, there are extravagant hotels for tourists, costing $600 a night with designer clothing shops attached, and opposite there are local residents flats that are falling apart. I want to show how difficult their everyday lives are and the challenges they are faced with, such as obtaining the simplest necessities like food, which is a great ordeal.
I want to raise awareness through my work to westernised countries and more privileged people.
Using the architecture in Havana as the basis to get my message across will be the most effective as the huge differences in the buildings are prominent and can easily be distinguished which are hotels, and which are Cubans housing. The close proximity of these contrasting buildings shows the unhidden inequalities. I also want to represent the spirit, positive attitude and generous mind-set that Cubans remain to carry in their culture that help them get through trying times.
