COURSE: Fashion Business & Promotion 2020

BA (Hons) Fashion Business and Promotion

“Buy less. Choose well. Make it last” - Vivienne Westwood

As a BA (Hons) Fashion Business and Promotion graduate, my skills and experience through university has embarked me on a journey to pursue Fashion Journalism. Throughout the degree modules, I have developed skills in using Adobe software. From InDesign I created trend books in Buying and Merchandising. Explored the fashion industry in Fashion Business and Context. Also, examined fashion media in PR and Marketing by creating a campaign. I improved my written skills in report writing, editing and proofreading work to a deadline.

Final Major Project:
My final major project was a business plan called, ‘Red Carpet by Harvey Nichols.’ It was to rent Harvey Nichols branded clothing to the womenswear market. Exploring ways to reduce the impact of fast fashion, the rent market is slowly increasing in the coming years. The collection is manufactured in the UK with its fabrics coming from a UK mill. This is to enforce the sustainability and value of the product being produced locally. Inspired by the future trends, the collection is only available to rent. Allowing a consumer to choose a rental plan from a, 1-day rent, 3-day rent and a 7-day rent. This business plan bought many transferrable skills as I understood how brands conduct a profitable business. My networking skills were refined as I communicated with industry experts and formatted an interview to gather primary research.

My dissertation analysed the effects the Royal family have on the fashion industry. Exploring the brands, Kate Middleton, Megan Markle and Princess Diana have worn. The fashion industry has witnessed brands becoming popular or products going out of stock. This study investigates the media’s portrayal and the importance of the Royal influence in Britain. This project allowed me to branch into a topic of interest as I examined the reasons behind their influence and how it will spread through generations. Historical photos of Princess Margaret in Dior were captured alongside iconic wedding dresses through the study. During the modules I studied fashion publications and strengthen my writing skills. This bought the opportunity to examine the sector of fashion media.
