When I was deciding on my college majors I was very much aware that fashion designer’s ideas might not reach the people for whom they are created without working hand-in-hand with the efficiency of management and marketing. While I’m not much of a person who sews and draws well, I enjoy indulging in the industry’s methods and how elements come together when photographers, models and stylists create magazine editorials to showcase a designer’s work.
After two years of indulging in Fashion Marketing and Management, I've completed my first internship in Fendi Malaysia. While it gave me a substantial insight on retail management, I’ve always been a big believer that results can’t be seen until further actions are taken. As a result, I decided to be part of Zalora Malaysia as an Executive of Buying Operations. My role has engaged and opened up my mind to a whole different experience on what’s going on behind the scene in the fashion e-commerce industry. Being able to work under the same roof of different departments from production to marketing has broadened my aspact outside of my given job role which got me really interested in the industry even more.
During my final year, I wrote a dissertation based on how Primark negates e-commerce and e-marketing while maximizing its use of brick-and-mortar stores. However, brick-and-mortar stores have been struggling due to the recent Coronavirus outbreak whereby all "non-essential" are forced to temporarily close. This crisis has pushed a large amount of the world population to browse online e-tailers for the first time. Hence, I've decided to design and develop an e-commerce website for a local fashion brand. I've also created an AR Instagram filter for the brand, to raise the brand's awareness to the digital public.
I intend to further my studies to graduate with Masters and work my way up to a Fashion E-commerce Manager. I believe the combination of fashion and technology can provide brands with the ability to enhance ways to reach out to the public. The rush in-a-making of a product to be put on live is one of the things I love about this industry. I am content with what I am doing because I enjoy it at best.
