TITLE: Hedons & Dolors

Sin is the only real colour element left in modern life" The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde
What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde
About:
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde inspired my collection, primarily his hedonistic lifestyle. Films Nymphomaniac I & II portray exaggerated displays of sexual desire, resulting in the fetish elements designed throughout the collection. Silks and neutral colour palettes reflect wealth and the naked form.
Core of hedonism:
- the only thing that is intrinsically good is pleasure.
- the only thing that is intrinsically bad is pain.
'According to hedonism, the goodness and badness of an event or state of affairs can be measured in hedons and dolors.'

TITLE: Prediction 4

Mere puppets to the unknown
In order to build, we need to break
About:
Prediction 4, S/S 17 Womenswear Collection focuses on the 4 ways in which the human body may or may not evolve. By looking back at past events that produced an environment that pushed the body to break down to transform into an abnormal structure. A structure that left the idea of the human body as we understand it, in the shadows. Alongside focusing on the exsiting evidence of human transformations, the focus was drawn to the idea of present technology and conflict having an impact on both our bodies and our environment and how this could impact our future transformation

TITLE: Controlled Freedom; Cognitive Consciousness

"WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH"
Unconscious material is only unconscious because it has been pushed out of our consciousness.
About:
Within the ever evolving digital age culture, modern society has become dependant on the screen to provide one with almost every need and desire. This concept explores George Orwell's (1984) vision of 'dystopia' in line with today's environment, with modern exposure to screen time as a method of communication and... a way of life. Society has become so used to being watched and watching others that this is no longer noticeable, being aware yet unconscious of social cognition to fit the 'requirements'.

TITLE: AM I A MAN?

A child is envious of the opposite gender due to their genitalia.
If you understand transgender, then you understand that gender doesn't have to do with bed partners, it is to do with identity.
About:
The concept behind "AM I A MAN?" is that of gender envy and the identity behind gender itself. Inspired by Freud's theory of gender envy in young children, the silhouette and colour palette have responded to that. The playful colours and print reflect that of a child's understanding of gender and how free the emotions are that accompany it.

TITLE: The Uncertainty Paradox

INTOLERANCE OF YOUR PRESENT CREATES YOUR FUTURE
When people feel threatened, they often respond by becoming more confident in and more defensive of their prior beliefs, more closed-minded, and more aggressive toward those who disagree with them
About:
The Uncertainty Paradox: Suggests that the views of society regress back to old fashioned and prior values and beliefs due to people being threatened by 'aliens'. The recurring 'old fashioned' views of extreme Russia and the uprising of facist Britain have been explored to understand the cause behind current civic frustrations and the affect of these views on groups of people.
The clash of these views are represented to create a bold and bright collection.

TITLE: Accidents Are Never To Seek

Accident: An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.
Celebrate your scars they are part of who you are.
About:
Accidents Are Never To Seek is a Luxury women's wear collection. The Inspiration behind the collection came from an accident I had a few years ago where I broke my neck in two places. It was a traumatic experience and something I will never forget. Accidents are usually horrific events which are unplanned and unwanted. Unlike my accident the characters in the film Crash seek disaster and stage crashes for pleasure. Crash explores the paraphilia of symphorophilia. If someone has symphorophilia they are erotically turned on by accidents or catastrophes. In the film they celebrate their scars and injuries and they find them sexy and attractive. The collection takes influences from the film, my accident and also the recovery process, particularly when the body is injured beyond recovery and the bionics used within medicine. The embroidery was developed because of the 3D texture of the scars themselves, the shape was taken from my original neck x-rays.

In the film there are many shots of the characters touching and feeling different surfaces designed to arouse the viewer. This is mainly metal debris from the accident itself but also textured fabrics such as leather, suede and fur. I wanted to use these materials within my collection to reflect this but also for their protective qualities.

The collection is a celebration of life and injury with a sexy and fun feel.

TITLE: Origins

I didn’t start this project anticipating that I could stop the world from changing.
I purely wanted to create a visual document that reminds us and generations to come of how beautiful the human world once was.
About:
This concept stemmed from an exhibition which explored the origins of indigenous cultures and the rarity of them in today’s society. I myself was inspired by this phenomenon as our world is losing its individuality and we are forming a monotonous race. i focus on the eradication of cultures and the conflicts faced.
