"The only impossible journey is the one you never begin"
This collection of videos focuses mainly on buying and merchandising as this is the vocation I wish to pursue in the fashion industry, with an insight into my Final Major Project.
I’m a Fashion Business and Promotion graduate with 3 years experience learning about all aspects of the fashion industry and gaining a wide skill set for the industry. This course has given me the confidence and drive to purse my career ambitions and become a successful buyer in the future.
The buying and merchandising work shown in the two landscape videos display a collaboration with the Whistles Birmingham flagship store where I was given the opportunity to create a 6 piece range for their spring/summer 2017 collection. This was developed through an appreciation of the whistles ‘women’ and consumer, industry trends alongside street style and catwalk inspiration. Consideration of lead times, critical path, margins and phasing into store was analysed and the range plan book was completed with a styling section and in store concept. This project was produced using adobe software, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and I achieved a 1st overall for my efforts.
Although my main career focus is to go into fashion buying, my experience over the past 3 years at university has led me to gain an understanding of other aspects of the fashion industry, such as marketing, PR, Visual Merchandising, Trends Forecasting, International Retailing, Event Management and more.
In my final year, my dissertation led to further research into the mental health and wellbeing industry and from this I established a link between the effects of video gaming and positive mental health. I then created an app and collaborated with other experts within the industry to showcase my idea, which resulted in me being nominated for an award at graduate fashion week (see portrait video). This demonstrates that I am very versatile and I can adapt to new and current trends and changes within different industries and this is something I would love to continue doing within the fashion sector.
